TEXTURED KNITTING

JODY'S REFINED ARAN
Pattern is "Refined Aran", designed by Charlotte Morris from "The Best of Knitter's, Arans and Celtics" Yarn used: Naturally Merino and Fur 10 ply in Natural (05), 11 skeins (50 grs./131 yds per skein). The merino and (possum) fur yarn is super soft and so far hasn't shed. The yarn is made in New Zealand but unfortunately I believe it's being discontinued.

REFINED ARAN, back
The pattern calls for a sport weight yarn so I had to make a few modifications in order to use a worsted weight yarn. I omitted one entire cable pattern from each side and the two corresponding cables on the back. I also decreased the number of stitches on each side. The button band and arm bands are knit separately and the live stitches are grafted onto the vest. Knitting and attaching the bands was an enormous pain but the results were worth it. I was able to shape the neck and arm openings much more than had I just picked up and knit the bands directly from the garment.

JUNIEANN'S FERN AS A CARDIGAN
Pattern by Alice Starmore, knitted in AS Scottish Heather in "Water Cricket," that had been in my stash for years. I knitted the medium size on #8 needles. I had 18 hanks of Water Cricket and used 17 1/2 of them.

JUNIEANN'S FERN, back
I modified Starmore's lovely Fern pattern is into this husky, robust cardigan with inserted side pockets, (fastened with bronze colored Nordic clasps for no other reason than I hate making buttonholes).

YANKEE PUZZLE BY JUNIEANN
Yankee Puzzle Barn Jacket Version 3, Yarn: Noro Cash Iroha,Yokes, Noro Country Garden, Cord trims, Cashmere. (This is an example of a knitting disastor. What NOT to knit this pattern with. The Noro was too soft to show texture or hold shape.)

Self-designed Aran Cardigan in Donegal Heather, Kilcarra Yarns

MAUREEN'S BLACK WATER ABBEY ARAN
Self-designed Aran pullover, Yarn from Black Water Abbey

MAUREEN'S CELTIC KNOT
The design was modeled after AS's Brigid in Aran Knitting using the knots from the St. Ciaran shawl since I liked them better. The yarn is Rowanspun Aran.

MAUREEN'S ARAN JACKET
Ray's Aran Jacket, self-designed. Knitted from Kilcarra Yarns Donegal Heather.

PATRICE'S ZIGZAG
Pattern: Zig Zag "Designed for fall, this sweater irreverently inspires itself from the gansey tradition with its split garter welts and horizontal patterning at the upper chest." Designer: V´┐Żonik Avery, from Knitty, Fall 2004; Yarn: Unger: Sherbert, Cotton Microfiber, DK, 13 skeins @ 104 yds: Companions: Chance and Cassie Giant Schnauzers

REBEKKAH'S ELIZABETH I
pattern name: Elizabeth I, designed by Alice Starmore from "Tudor Roses." yarn: Brown Sheep Naturespun sportweight (This is one sweater I'd love to have a modeled picture of, but it was knit for someone larger than me, and me wearing the sweater doesn't do the shaping justice.)

REBEKKAH'S RHAPSODY IN BROWN
Pattern Name: Rhapsody in Tweed (although I call mine Rhapsody in Brown, for obvious reasons; Designer: Kathy Zimmerman, from Interweave Knits, Fall 2004; yarn/gauge: Cascade Eco Wool. The stated gauge for the pattern is 22 rows/stitches=4", but I remember my row gauge being tighter than that. (I added pattern repeats to make up for it) I think the recommended auge for Eco Wool is looser than this, but I think it knit up beautifully at this gauge.

REBEKKAH'S ROGUE
Pattern: Rogue hooded pullover, designed by Jenna Wilson; Yarn: Clasgens worsted wool; gauge: don't remember exactly, but it was what the pattern said (fairly typical gauge for aran weight yarn)

URSULA'S CASHMERE SHAWL
A merino/cashmere shawl, about 5 feet long an 1 foot wide, aran pattern allover, my own design. The yarn used is "cashmerino" by Lang, which is not available any more, needle size 3,25mm. This was a looooot of work !

URSULA'S GOLDEN GATE
Alice Starmore "Golden Gate" from the book PCH, knitted in 3-ply Hebridian in color kittiwake, following the instructions that came along with the yarn (slightly altered to the book due to a slightly smaller gauge).

URSULA'S IBENHOLT
"Ibenholt" from the Dale of Norway pattern book 144. I used pure wool yarn "Gala" from Online, knitting needle size 3.5mm.
